GOLYTELY
Indicated for rapid and thorough intestinal cleansing prior to colonoscopy or barium enema X-ray examinations.
Clinical Comparison: GOLYTELY vs. Sodium Phosphate
When comparing the use of Sodium Phosphate and GOLYTELY in patients with functional constipation and irritable bowel syndrome;
In the GOLYTELY group:
A higher “procedural compliance score” was achieved during the bowel preparation phase (92.8% vs. 89.6%).
Less abdominal pain (7.1% vs. 27.6%) and nausea (32.1% vs. 65.5%) were observed.
The total arithmetic mean score for cleansing quality was higher (4.71 vs. 4.34).

GLOBAL GUIDELINES & RECOMMENDATIONS
European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE)
ESGE recommends the use of 4L Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) for routine bowel preparation.
ESGE recommends PEG for bowel cleansing prior to emergency colonoscopy, especially in patients with renal failure.
Due to safety concerns, ESGE and ASGE do not recommend the routine use of sodium phosphate for bowel preparation.
American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE)
In its “2015 Guideline on Bowel Preparation Before Colonoscopy,” ASGE defines GOLYTELY (which contains electrolyte-based PEG) as the “Standard Criterion.”
ASGE recommends either a single-dose GOLYTELY regimen or a split-dose GOLYTELY regimen* starting one day before the colonoscopy.
